
Ravi Kumar teaches Sociology at South Asian University, New Delhi. Prior to joining South Asian University he taught at Jamia Millia Islamia and was a faculty at the Council for Social Development, New Delhi. He was visiting faculty at Anglia Ruskin University, UK and National Institute of Design, India. His areas of specialisation include politics of knowledge production, social movements, development studies, social theory, political economy of identity formation and South Asian studies. Apart from numerous journal papers on issues of pedagogy, movements and social theory his books include [2018] Neoliberalism, Critical Pedagogy and Education; [2014] Social Movements: Transformative Shifts and Turning Points; [2014] Education, State and Market: Anatomy of Neoliberal Impact; [2012] Education and the Reproduction of Capital: Neoliberal Knowledge and Counterstrategies; [2009] Global Neoliberalism and Education and its Consequences; [2006] The Crisis of Elementary Education in India. He was founding Associate Editor of the journal Society and Culture in South Asia (Sage). He co-edits book series titled Social Movements, Dissent and Transformative Action (Routledge: Delhi). He has been on advisory body of many journals and book series.
