CETL was established under the leadership of Prof. K.K. Aggarwal, President, South Asian University with an aim to make far reaching contributions in the arena of knowledge production. It encompasses the multifaceted essence and foundation of what defines our existence as intellectuals and transcends the constricted instrumentalist understanding associated with teaching-learning processes. The need to go back to the primordial question solicited since the ancient civilizations of ‘What is Knowledge’ remains as relevant as ever given the newer and diverse forms of challenges confronted by societies, nations, individuals or institutions. Knowledge, therefore, is in perpetual flux getting shaped by the times in which they are produced. These knowledge(s) also emerge out of struggles between contesting understanding of universe, the beliefs and practices of world cultures, and philosophising its diverse aspects. Learning becomes a boundless world, something that can be picked from anywhere. It is all too easy to turn away from new or diverse knowledge without ever truly embracing its depths. However, it is requisite to acknowledge that there is no one singular form of knowledge or way of looking at the world that should be privileged. This Centre, with its innovative and multifaceted approach, believes in plurality of knowledges and also how they can be harnessed for the good of society and the region. The unprecedented pace of technological advancement has introduced fresh challenges to teaching and learning practices, prompting academic practitioners to engage with them continuously. The classrooms are being altered, research is being relooked at and in this process the relationships between teacher and taught within the academic intellectual world are being rethought. The technological evolution has opened a completely new world of knowledge production where all existing ideas and norms of teaching and learning are getting defined and redefined every moment. It is asking all constituents to think how to move ahead within these fast evolving times. CETL acknowledges that knowledge is a perpetual quest. In this quest the Centre has an endless horizon of tasks to be undertaken – from looking at the questions of curriculum to pedagogy, governance issues in higher education to active engagement with intellectuals through workshops, capacity building programmes, seminars, conferences, researches, etc. It is in constant lookout for partners to collaborate in this journey.
